remember the computer/console game company party where the dude kills his 'future father-in-law' by shooting him in an elevator with a silenced pistol... while the killer is passionately smooching the future corpse's daughter? ShinRan were in the same building having dinner at a fancy expensive Italian resturaunt. this was within the day time limit of Haibara's first ATPX antidote test... ShinRan were at a very special resturaunt to him... the one where his dad proposed to his mom... ShinRan were sitting at the very same table where the proposal happened... yeah... he was going for it, but ran out of time due to that murder case and Haibara disguised as Conan and using a voice-changer medical-mask had to switch clothes with Shin when he shrank back.

dude was going to confess his love and probably propose marriage too... well, maybe he wasn't going to go THAT far... but he certainly picked the most romantic spot he could ever think of to say something to Ran. Conan's last lines in that episode were solid proof he's sure she's 'the one'... "Shinichi-nii-chan asked me to give you a message before he left...'Please, wait for me.' "

Ran's about absolutely sure too... Sonoko got Ran to join that pottery class with the murder in it. Conan was there of course. Sonoko made that giant tea-mug for her man that he mistook for a vase... Ran didn't obviously decorate her gift she was thinking of sending to Shin... on the base of the tea-mug she wrote 'I will wait for you.'

so yeah, those two are pretty tragic and such, but they're definitely a frog's nose hair away from being a full-on couple. ;) heck, they're already living together hmm? hahaha! ;)

Ah yeah, Shinichi already knows he likes Ran (since episode 1 even) and that Ran even likes him, they're just not canonically dating at this point. But I could swear that I remember Shinichi being all defensive about Ran being his girlfriend, even at points later than this, but nothing's coming to mind. Maybe I'm just confusing that with Ran? Cuz she certainly does that..
